Howling in the Mistwood Ruins

Before we start, if you want to get Blaidd’s armor set, you need to do a whole separate quest aside from his quest. You need to complete Ranni’s questline before you can get his armor set in the game. Once you’ve done that, to start Blaidd’s quest, you will need to go to the Mistwood Ruins at night, and there you will hear someone howl. This will be your first encounter with Blaidd and he will be sitting on top of the ruins, howling without noticing you.

Snap Gesture

To make him go down from the ruins, you need to go back to the Church of Elleh. Talk to the merchant called Merchant Kale and ask him about the howling in the Mistwood Ruins. The Merchant will teach you the Snap Gesture. Go back to the Mistwood Ruins and stand below Blaidd. Make the gesture and he will come down from the ruins. Talk to Blaidd and he will tell you that he is looking for Darriwil and he will offer you a reward if you find him.

About Blaidd and Darriwil

Go back to Merchant Kale and ask about Blaidd. He will tell you more about the Wolven Knight. Now it is time to hunt down Darriwil. You can find him in the Forlorn Hound Evergaol as shown on the map above. Start by teleporting in the Agheel Lake South and head north to the quest area. When you get to the Forlorn Hound Evergaol, examine the central platform to enter the Evergaol.

Darriwil Fight

Once you are ready for a fight, enter the Evergaol. Head south and you will find the Bloodhound Knight Darriwil. The Darriwil boss fight can be challenging for both melees and ranged players. If you are using spells, do try to use the Glimstone spells if you can.  If you use other ranged weapons, you need to dodge his attacks first and then attack him while he is in his attack animation. When he drags his claws on the ground and charges at you, quickly roll away from his plunging attack and you can get a couple of hits in. If you are confident enough, you can roll into him instead, and if you time it correctly, you will get no damage. Darriwil will also perform a three or four-hit combo with his sword. He will swing his sword and it will have a small delay before he follows it up with two more hits. Once you lower him to less than half health, he will perform a different kind of charge attack at you. He will drag his claws on the ground and you will see some sparks coming out of it before it hits you in an arc. Wait for the last minute of the arc attack then you can land a few hits due to the delay of the attack animation. After defeating Darriwil, you will get the Bloodhound’s Fang.

Talk to Blaidd

Once you defeat Darriwil, you will see Blaidd outside of the Evergaol. Talk to him and he will give you the Somber Smithing Stone. Talk to him again and he will tell you about a Blacksmith in Raya Lucaria. To find the blacksmith, go to the road to the Manor area as seen on the map above. To get here, you can teleport on the Northern Liurna Lake Shore and head north, past the Kingsrealm Ruins.

Talk to the Iji, the Blacksmith

After passing through the Kingsrealm Ruins, you will see a huge Blacksmith reading a book, sitting on the rock to your left. There is also a Lost Grace here that you can activate. Talk to the Blacksmith and he will tell you that his name is Iji. Keep talking to him and he will tell you about the Carians and the story about the Manor ahead. After this dialogue, you will get an option that says “Blaidd sent me”. Pick that option and you will unlock the Carian Filigreed Crest. You can purchase the item in his store, along with some Somber Smithing Stones.

Carian Filigreed Crest

The Carian Filgreed Crest is one of the items that you can purchase from Iji, the Blacksmith. You can only unlock this item for purchasing after helping Blaidd defeat Darriwil. You can purchase this item for 5,000 runes. The Carian Filigreed Crest is a type of talisman that you can equip in Elden Ring. This Talisman will lower the FP cost of all your skills, making it incredibly useful if you rely heavily on skills.

After Defeating Radahn

If you would like to know more or get more dialogue from Blaidd, you can find him after the Radahn boss fight. You will also find him in the Forlorn Hound Evergaol. Talk to him and Iji after the boss fight to get some additional dialogue.

How to get Blaidd’s Armor Set and the Royal Greatsword

If you want to get the full armor set of Blaidd, you need to do the full Ranni questline first. After completing the full Ranni questline and getting the Dark Moon Greatsword given by Ranni, you need to go back to Ranni’s Rise as seen on the map above. Go out of the tower and walk out of the front door and you will see Blaidd, the Wolven Knight. He is now an enemy and has gone mad, and to get his armor, you need to defeat him.

Defeat Blaidd, the Wolven Knight

When you exit Ranni’s Tower, you will see Blaidd, the Half-wolf sitting with his back facing you. He is immediately hostile to you when you approach him. If you approach him quickly, you can stab him in the back for extra damage. Blaidd will perform huge, swinging attacks with his sword. He will perform up to three to four attacks with his sword. Dodge to the back and you can deal damage during the attack delay. When he jumps up and performs an attack, dodge away because there will be delayed AoE damage coming from the sword. Once you get his attack patterns down, you can take him down easily. After defeating him, you can loot his body and get the Royal Greatsword, Blaidd’s Armor, Blaidd’s Gauntlets, and Blaidd’s Greaves.

How to get Blaidd’s Wolf Mask

You may notice that you are missing one piece of equipment in Blaidd’s set, and that is his Wolf Mask. If you want to get the Wolf Mask of Blaidd, you need to go to Seluvis’s Rise. Instead of going through the entrance, climb up the broken walls to your left until you reach the top. You will see a corpse here and if you Pillage the corpse, you will get the Black Wolf Mask.

Royal Greatsword

Aside from the Dark Moon Greatsword that you will get from Ranni’s quest, you will also get the Royal Greatsword from defeating Blaidd. The Royal Greatsword is a type of Colossal Sword that you can get in Elden Ring. To improve your damage using the Royal Greatsword, you need to increase your strength, intelligence, and dexterity. You will also get Wolf’s Assault skill from obtaining the weapon.

Summary

Your first encounter with Blaidd will be in the Mistwood Ruins, where he will be howling at night. His storyline is very much intertwined with Ranni’s questline and you need to do her quest to get access to Blaidd’s armor set. His side quest focuses on helping him defeat the traitor, Darriwil, in the Forlorn Hound Evergaol. Helping him will unlock the Carian Filgreed Crest Talisman in Iji’s shop.
