Netflix releases new The Witcher 2 trailers
Netflix already confirmed that the second season of The Witcher was coming later this year. Then, at its first-ever TUDUM showcase, the streaming giant doubled down on just how big of a deal this upcoming season was by dropping a few short teasers. None of these trailers is significant plot-wise, by any means, but it did give audiences a better look at the everyday life of citizens on the Continent and Ciri.
The Witcher gets a prequel in Blood Origin
The Witcher: Blood Origin is an upcoming prequel show set in a time and place long before the events of The Witcher. The story will reportedly center around the origins of the first Witcher as it teases the Conjunction of the Spheres, which is a major event that resulted in the worlds of elves, men, and monsters, all merging to become the same. Blood Origin will have a star-studded cast that includes Laurence O’Fuarain, Michelle Yeoh, and Sophia Brown. Unfortunately, the six-episode pilot season of Blood Origin has no premiere date yet. But, Netflix did drop a behind-the-scenes look at The Witcher prequel series to keep fans entertained in the meantime.
A “Fun-filled” Witcher series is coming to Netflix
It appears that Netflix isn’t just targetting older audiences with its all-in investment in The Witcher as the streaming platform also has something for families and kids. We don’t know much about how it will work just yet, but the kid-friendly Witcher series is good news for parents who are fans of The Witcher but want something more digestible for the little kids to watch. Also, after the success of The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wilf, Netflix confirmed that it’s working on a new anime feature film.
A third season of The Witcher has been greenlit
Once Season 2 of The Witcher drops on December 17, fans can start looking forward to more of Cavill’s take on Geralt of Rivia. Netflix also announced that on top of its other The Witcher projects, it’s going to work on the third season of The Witcher. Netflix has a ton of source material to work with from Andrzej Sapkowski’s books and it appears that it intends to make full use of it.
What’s next for The Witcher games series?
While Sapkowski’s books serve as the source for The Witcher franchise, it is CD Projekt RED’s The Witcher series of video games that made it so popular. Because of this, fans of the games are always on the lookout for when the next The Witcher game will release. So far, CD Projekt RED has not confirmed that it’s in development. But, if it’s any consolation, a next-gen upgrade and TV-related content for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is coming later this year.
