What Should Fans Expect from the First-Ever WitcherCon?
Video streaming giant, Netflix, and Polish games developer, CD Projekt Red, first teased the possibility of more Witcher news coming on July 9 on social media. But, now, we know that this isn’t just some silly prank that both decided to pull on their audiences.

The initial announcement came with a teaser that showed off Henry Cavill in full Geralt of Rivia costume from The Witcher series by Netflix side-by-side with Geralt from The Witcher video game series. The upcoming “global virtual celebration of The Witcher” will reportedly include a behind-the-scenes look at the development of various media related to The Witcher. This includes everything from Netflix’s series to the upcoming animated film, as well as the video games. It will also come with new reveals for the next season of the Netflix series, as well as “expert explorations” about the enormous lore behind The Witcher franchise. Netflix’s The Witcher is based on the novel of the same name by the Polish author, Andrzej Sapkowski. CD Projekt Red’s video game series is also based on the same novel. However, CDPR took a lot of liberties from its source material, which makes the video game series different from the novel and Netflix’s series. Speaking of Netflix’s The Witcher, production on Season 2 just wrapped up, and you can watch the team behind it celebrating in a video that features some exciting footage down below. It looks like a new The Witcher video game will be appearing at the WitcherCon. Just to recap, CDPR’s The Witcher video game series saw the conclusion of the story of Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Since then, rumors of a fourth installment being in the works have floated around. Most of these speculations often involve Ciri taking on the role of the series’ new protagonist after becoming a Witcher herself. With that said, it’ll be interesting to see what CDPR has up its sleeves if it doesn’t plan on announcing a new game at WitcherCon on July 9. CDPR is currently in the midst of arguably its most tumultuous year yet and it doesn’t look like it’s going to end anytime soon. CDPR is still recovering from the backlash it faced after the launch of its latest title, Cyberpunk 2077, back in December 2020. This has led to a lot of fans wondering if CDPR can still recover from the entire Cyberpunk 2077 fiasco and get back to being best known for making high-quality AAA titles.
