Unfortunately, subsequent releases have not been up to par and the series has since remained silent for years. Until now. Or at least, that’s what the recent rumors would have us believe. VGC journalist Andy Robinson took to Twitter to discuss Konami’s strategy for many of the IPs that they are currently sitting on. This included Silent Hill, which, according to Andy and his “well-placed resources”, was pitched already to a “prominent Japanese developer”.

  • Konami cooled on outsourcing IPs after MG Survive & Contra flops- Supermassive Silent Hill pitch turned into Dark Pictures- Plans to outsource Castlevania & MGS too — Andy Robinson (@AndyPlaytonic) February 18, 2021 Of course, in the very same tweet, he did not rule out the possibility that the franchise is seeing two reboots. If that’s the case, then it is indeed possible that the other reboot could be handled by Bloober Team.

Who Is Bloober Team?

Founded in 2008 and based in Kraków, Bloober Team is a Polish video game developer that’s as far as you can get from being a “prominent Japanese developer”. However, even though the geography does not mean match, they do have the pedigree to pull off a Silent Hill remake. Bloober Team are the developers of well-known horror titles such as Layer of Fear, and more recently, The Medium. The reason why their name is being brought up along with the rumors of the Silent Hill reboot is a statement from their very own CEO, Piotr Babieno, in a recent interview with Gamesindustry.biz. There, he confirmed that they’ve spent “more than a year on another gaming project” and that they’re “doing this with a very famous gaming publisher”. What gives further credence to the rumors is a statement from Akira Yamaoka. In a now-removed interview, the Silent Hill composed revealed that his next project will be unveiled sometime in the summer of 2021. In the same interview, he hinted that it was a game that fans had long wanted to hear more about. All in all, this makes for a total of three developers rumored to be working on the Silent Hill remake. This includes the aforementioned developers, Supermassive Games, and Bloober Team. The third and last is Koei Tecmo. Regardless of what’s true or what isn’t, we likely won’t have to wait too long to find out. With multiple sources pointing to 2021 as when the reboot will supposedly be announced, we have a little over half a year left to find out if the new Silent Hill remake is true or not and more importantly when it’s coming.
