According to Dexerto, several different sources have made similar claims that Blizzard invited Overwatch content creators to attend “secret meetings” and sign non-disclosure agreements. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to deduce that these lowkey powwows are about Overwatch 2. Furthermore, Twitter user FireTheGull, pointed out changes to Overwatch’s in-game files that hint at an impending Overwatch 2 demo. Of course, this remains unconfirmed, so take it with a grain of salt. But, the timing of an Overwatch 2 beta in March would line up with the next season of the Overwatch League. Last year, Blizzard confirmed that the Overwatch League will start using an early Overwatch 2 build for the 2022 season when it starts in April. It’s been a long and arduous road for Blizzard and Overwatch 2. Last April, we saw longtime Blizzard employee and Overwatch lead, Jeff Kaplan, leave the company. Meanwhile, the Department of Justice started probing The Overwatch League in July. Less than two months later, Blizzard renamed Jesse McCree in light of the still-ongoing workplace harassment lawsuits. To top it all off, Tracy Kennedy blasted Activision Blizzard’s CEO, Bobby Kotick, and pinned the Overwatch 2 delay exclusively on him. We can only hope that all of these issues with Overwatch 2 don’t end up affecting the final product if and when it comes out. The silver lining here is that Blizzard has had some good news to share in the past few weeks. For starters, the makers of Warcraft finally started banning boosters from World of Warcraft. The fan-favorite video game studio also confirmed that it’s working on a new survival IP with a credible source suggesting that Blizzard has at least one more “secret” project in the works.
